Regulation of Wine Making & Export
Maintaining Australia’s Reputation
1. The export of wine is highly regulated by Wine Australia
2. Regulation aims to preserve Australia’s internationally recognised reputation for quality and integrity.
3. Regulation activities include
1) licensing exporters;
2) issuing permits for Australian wine exports;
3) a label integrity program to prevent false or misleading labelling.
It is a condition of export that:
· The product must comply with the Australian Food Standards Code in respect to both labelling and analytical requirements;
· The product must comply with the Wine Australia Corporation Regulations in respect to the blending requirements for any vintage, varietal, or geographical indication claimed on the label.
· If an “organic” claim is made, the product satisfies the requirements of Australia’s export control orders regarding such claims.
